Hosting
Sign up here (private wiki page) to be a peer advisor (and/or Host). As a visit day host, you are volunteering to allow a prospective student stay at your home during the visit day. You will be providing the a place to sleep for 2-3 nights (Sunday, and Monday nights). The duration of the stay sometimes varies depending on their traveling plans.
Peer Advising
Sign up here (private wiki page) to be a peer advisor (and/or Host). Here is what is involved in being a peer advisor:
Now until Visit Day
- Contact your advisee(s) and offer to answer questions via email and/or phone.
- Rely on the FAQ for quick responses to a lot of questions. Feel free to point new recruits to the FAQ. Whenever you encounter a new question or anything worth documenting for future peer advisors, add it to the CSGSA wiki!
Sunday March 15
This is your big day. The idea is to stick with your advisee like glue to be their point person for everything.
| 12:15pm | GET A SPECIAL GRAD STUDENT NAME TAG! We will issue name tags for you to wear during visit days. This is will make it easier for new admits to find current students that are able to help if they get lost during visit day. Please make sure you pick up a name tag from the Wozniak lounge on Sunday. |
| 12:30pm | Free lunch. Meet your advisee(s) and have lunch on us! After lunch, you can hang out with them until 2:30pm which is when the opening remarks begin. |
| 5:30pm | Free Dinner. Take the shuttle to Lawrence Hall of Science for the "grand dinner". |
| 8:30pm | Party at Jupiter OR Sodahall Alternative Social Something -- Show them that we know how to have fun! |
| Till Late | Soda Hall After Party (SHAP) |
| Late late | If they are staying with you, take them home for sleep. If not, help them find their host. |
Monday March 16:
- Be somewhat accessible to your advisee(s) to answer questions
After Visit Day:
- Send an email to follow-up and answer questions
- Give a warm welcome if they decide to come
- Be available to answer questions about course selection, requirements, etc.
