If you are looking for somewhere to go to eat by yourself or with a small group, check out the Places to Eat page.

This page, on the other hand, is for reviewing the various aspects of Berkeley restaurants that are useful to know if you are ordering food for a school related event. Since many of us regularly order food for various events, it is helpful to learn from the past experience of others (or our past selves). For example, what tastes good, who only takes cash, who will take berkeley purchase orders, how many grad students will a large zachary's pizza feed, is there a special person to talk to at restaurant X?, etc.

Things you should list about a restaurant for your own and others future reference:

  • Yelp link
  • Restaurant name
  • Contact info (phone, contact name)
  • Types of payment accepted (PO, cash, credit card)
  • Suggested dishes to order, price, and how many students said dishes will feed
  • Delivers?
  • Overall Rating
  • Who to contact if you have questions about past experiences with this restaurant
  • Web link (e.g. their webpage, yelp)
  • Other comments (hours, secrets for good service, etc.)

When we have more places here, consider adding a table for easier comparison.

Cheeseboard pizza

  • Payment: cash only, AndyK has also used a UC Purchase Order
  • Menu/Suggestions: they pretty much only serve a single type of pizza per day (but the theory group has ins and sometimes gets two kinds for big orders?). $20/pie tax included, one pie feeds ~3
  • Delivers: no

  • Cheeseboard is super famous. We ordered from these guys for 21 people for RAD Lab group meeting 1/14/09, we picked up 6 pizzas for 21 people. We placed the order the day before and used a P.O at pick up time. They open at 11:30 and are open Tuesday thru Saturday (closed Monday). Menu is at [1] if you want to see what the flavor of the day is. This style of pizza is hard to get vegan.

Chaat Cafe

  • Payment: credit or cash. Haven't tried a purchase order.

  • Menu/Suggestions: They serve most types of indian food but I would highly recommend their wraps for group events. They are very good about catering. You just need to call about one day in advance for a large order.

Celia's Mexican Restaurant

  • Payment: Cash or Credit. Haven't tried a purchase order.

  • Menu/Suggestions: Good to get the enchiladas, rice, beans, and chips. (Aim for 1.5 to 2 enchiladas per person.) It's best to walk over to Celia's and make the order through the manager. Make sure to tell them it'll be a large group order. He'll give you a discounted price (~20% off).

  • Menu/Suggestions: Has beef, pork, chicken, and veggie burritos. Comes with chips and salsa. Comes out to ~$120 (before tip) for 18 burritos.

Mayflower Chinese

  • Payment: Credit or cash, but they want credit info over phone for delivery.

  • Menu/Suggestions: Very good faux meat dishes. Transported well and seemed to be universally liked.
