From CSGSA
These directions will help you get to campus via the BART train system (Bay Area Rapid Transit, http://www.bart.gov). While BART is often the fastest way to get around during heavy traffic hours (which is remarkably often), Berkeley has a modern bus system that runs often, and is Google Transit enabled.
The BART trains run every 8-15 minutes and are convenient to UC Berkeley, downtown Berkeley hotels, and Oakland and San Francisco airports.
Purchase a fare card from the machines in any station (cash or credit card OK). The fare card acts as a debit card - you swipe the card when you enter a station and again when you exit at your destination, and the appropriate fare is subtracted, but don't buy much more fare than you need since any leftover fare on your card can't be converted back to cash. Also, each rider needs a separate card--a single card can't be shared by multiple riders.
From San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
Make your way to the International Terminal of the airport (5-8 minute walk from any point in the airport, or take the free "AirTrain" monorail). The BART station is in the International Terminal. The one-way fare to Berkeley is $5.90. Board any train on the platform marked "San Francisco" (the train itself will be marked "San Francisco/Pittsburg/Bay Point"). Get off at "12th Street - Oakland City Center", and directly across the platform, board the train marked "Richmond" (if it's not waiting for you, it will come in a few minutes) and get off at Berkeley. Then see below for getting from the Berkeley station to Soda Hall.
From Oakland Airport (OAK)
The AirBART bus stops at each terminal and takes you to the Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART station. Fare is $3.00 (pay exact fare on board, or purchase ticket from machine at bus stop). At the BART station, buy your BART ticket (one-way fare is $2.20) and take the escalator for the platform marked "Richmond, San Francisco, Millbrae". Board the train marked "Richmond" (they come every 10-15 minutes) and get off at Berkeley. (DO NOT board a San Francisco train!)
To get from Berkeley BART station to Soda Hall
Exit the Berkeley BART station via the main exit--a long escalator adjacent to the manned station agent's booth. When you emerge, look across the large street (Shattuck Ave.) and you will see a large Bank of America at the corner of Shattuck and Center. The Perimeter shuttle bus stops in front of the Bank of America every 12 minutes and costs $1; ask to be dropped off in front of Cory Hall, and Soda Hall is right across the street. To walk to Soda Hall (about 15 minutes, somewhat uphill the whole way): Walk along Center St. past the Bank of America, and you'll come to the West Gate entrance of campus. Enter along the the main drive, and continue walking along what is obviously the only auto road into campus. After you cross a small wooden-planked bridge, take the next left and walk along the pedestrian path up the hill. You will emerge at the North Gate entrance of the campus. Continue walking UP the hill (Hearst Avenue) and Soda Hall will be just on your left, 1 block up from the North Gate.
